I've found my furever family!

Hi! My Name Is Vinny

We're happy to tell you that Vinny has a new furever home.
Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.

Meet VINNY – this 8 year old adorable 8 pound chihuahua mix is as sweet as they come. He was originally adopted from a shelter in 2019 by a loving owner who pampered and adored him. Unfortunately, his adopter recently passed away so the extended family made the responsible decision to entrust his care and rehoming to Paws Above.

Vinny is a quiet dog who enjoys cuddles, belly rubs and generally just being near his person. He is sensitive and cautious but welcomes attention from slow and gentle hands. He even gets the occasional brief bout of zoomies each day. Vinny is definitely not a fan of leash walks but will sniff and explore in a secure fenced backyard on a warm sunny day. He does not like toys or have any formal obedience per se but is generally very easy going and happy to sit on your lap or nearby looking out a sunny window.

Vinny previously was pee pad trained but has been learning to potty outside since being brought into his foster home. A consistent routine with set meal times, supervision, and potty breaks has contributed to his success.

Vinny currently coexists peacefully with two senior lab mixes but would probably prefer a home as the star of the show due to his nervousness. Vinny currently sleeps soundly through the night on his own but would likely love to snuggle in bed with his person. His favourite thing is burrowing under a blanket (or three). His fur is smooth and very low maintenance (but does require sweaters and jackets in cooler temperatures).

As is very common to his breed, he does have a luxating patella in one knee. No treatment is needed however keeping him at a healthy weight is important. He is neutered, vaccinated and up to date on all his vetting including taking monthly flea/tick prevention. He also had a full dental completed in October. Vinny is looking for someone who would love a companion, ideally a calm adult home environment where he will not be left alone for long extended periods (though he is fine for a few hours).
