Paws Above Rescue will consider adoptive families anywhere in Ontario. We will sometimes make accommodations for out of province adoptions but do not currently adopt to the U.S.
This is simply due to logistics and distance of travel for our volunteers. Our goal is to make the best rescue match taking into consideration the animal's background and your family's needs. Every animal is different: personality, temperament, energy, comfort with kids and other animals, medical needs and more. We take all these factors into consideration when making a furever-home match. We are very careful about the placements we make. We do our best to match the right animal with the right adoptive home because we want this to be the pet's permanent home.
We appreciate you wanting to bring a animal into your home. In order for us to find the right pet for you, we need you to submit an adoption application.
We will review your application upon receipt. If we have any questions or concerns, we will contact you for clarity.
Once your application review is complete, a Paws Above Rescue volunteer will contact you to schedule a meet and greet with your chosen pet. During the meet up, we invite you to interact with the animal and to ask the foster family any questions you might have. After all, they know them best. All family members must be present during the home visit. For dogs, this includes any other dogs in the family.
We have volunteers that will call all your references including your vet. The notes from the interviews are then sent to the board for review.
If everything is still good with your application at this point, a Paws Above Rescue Director will contact you to schedule a home visit to meet virtually and discuss all-things pet. During the home visit, we look for potential hazards for the animal that the adopter may not have considered. We may have further questions for you and will happy to answer any that you might have. We will also let you know if you are approved to adopt.
